Sometimes you discover a new technique because you’re really bad at the one you thought would be a cinch. I am enamored with the colors, luster, finish and feel of seed beads. However (embarrassed cough), after amassing quite a stash of them, I quickly learned that I am hopeless with a needle and thread. I will never be an adequate (much less nimble) stitcher.
Thank goodness for two-part epoxy modeling compound. This self-curing medium is fantastic for exploring seed bead mosaic projects. A bit of rummaging in the studio yielded plenty of bits and bobs for just the right focal point or story line for some of my latest compositions. Poring over my pounds of seed beads has been a meditative exercise in color theory. I suspect I’ll be riding this obsession for a while!
